Freight can be moved far more efficiently with a single tractor, a single driver with two trailers in tow joined by a converter dolly. Each Canadian provincial jurisdiction has its own set of rules with respect to trailer configurations and per axle weight allowances when running a converter dolly to connect two trailers together. Great Dane manufacturers both single and tandem axle converter dollies. Glasvan has delivered dozens of Great Dane converter dollies that our customers run under the Ontario Long Combination Vehicle “LCV” program.
Converter dolly options include air ride suspensions, special valving for brake release to make the dollies easier to move in a yard, a spring loaded pogo stick for tensioning air and electrical cords between the lead and trailing trailer units. A standard jack stand to set the height of the drawbar when coupling is included. Great Dane offers spring ride dollies which are more economical and can be easier to operate and couple. Great Dane also offers optional factory installed and compliant pintle hitch systems on new Champion van and Everest reefer trailer product lines.
